Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the representative from Walkers Tours along with your personal guide. Refreshments will be served with a traditional king coconut to start your journey.
Proceed to Negombo. (approx. travel time: 40 mins)
Negombo is a bustling, historic coastal city in Sri Lanka's Western Province, located just 10 kilometers north of the Bandaranaike International Airport. Famous for its golden sandy beaches and centuries-old fishing industry, the city features Portuguese-era Catholic churches that have earned it the nickname "Little Rome".
Proceed to Negombo and check in to your hotel. Afterwards the cycling team will conduct bicycle fittings and adjustments to ensure maximum comfort and efficiency throughout the journey. During the welcome meeting, the cycling guide will introduce the tour, provide an overview of each day's route, discuss riding techniques, health and safety procedures, hydration requirements, and explain the role of the support vehicle.
Once the bicycles are prepared, riders will set off on a relaxed introductory ride along the western coastline toward Negombo Lagoon. This gentle first ride provides an opportunity to test equipment, acclimatize to the tropical conditions, and settle into the rhythm of the tour while enjoying views of fishing villages, beaches, and coastal lagoons.
After breakfast at the hotel, Proceed to Anuradhapura on vehicle. (approx. travel time: 4hrs | 180 kms)
Anuradhapura, located about 205 km north of Colombo, is Sri Lanka’s first ancient capital and a Sacred City of Anuradhapura UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in the 4th century BCE, it served as the island's political and spiritual center for over 1,000 years and is considered the cradle of Sinhalese Buddhist civilization.
Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax.
In the late afternoon, proceed to explore the Sacred City of Anuradhapura by bicycle. This immersive cycling experience allows you to discover some of the city's most iconic monuments and ancient landmarks, including the revered Sri Maha Bodhi, the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, the monastic complex of Abhayagiri, ancient reservoirs, and centuries-old monasteries that showcase the grandeur of Sri Lanka's ancient hydraulic and architectural achievements.
Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Dambulla by vehicle to visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its magnificent rock cave shrines, ancient Buddhist murals, and over 150 beautifully preserved Buddha statues. Dating back over 2,000 years, the temple is one of the most significant cultural and religious landmarks in Sri Lanka. (approx. travel time: 1.5hrs | 70 kms)
Following the visit, return to the hotel and relax.
In the afternoon, transfer to Sigiriya for a sunset climb of the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rising nearly 200 meters above the surrounding plains, this ancient royal citadel was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century CE. Ascend past the famous Lion Platform, frescoes, and mirror wall before reaching the summit, where the remains of the ancient palace and breathtaking panoramic views await. The climb during the late afternoon offers cooler temperatures and spectacular sunset vistas across the Cultural Triangle.
After the visit, return to the hotel by bicycle
After breakfast, set out on a cycling excursion to Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the remarkably well-preserved ruins of this medieval kingdom, including ancient royal palaces, sacred temples, impressive stupas, and intricately carved stone sculptures that reflect the grandeur of Sri Lanka's past. Cycling through the archaeological park provides an enjoyable and immersive way to discover the city's rich history and heritage. (approx. travel time: 1.5hrs | 60 kms)
Following the visit, return by tour vehicle.
In the afternoon, proceed to Minneriya National Park for an exciting jeep safari. The park is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat. Besides elephants, the park is home to deer, monkeys, crocodiles, numerous bird species, and a variety of other wildlife. Depending on the season, you may witness the famous "Gathering", where large herds of elephants congregate around the Minneriya Reservoir.

After breakfast, depart for Kandy by road, following the scenic route through Bakamuna and Alahara, passing rural landscapes, paddy fields, reservoirs, and picturesque countryside that offer a glimpse into Sri Lanka's traditional way of life. (approx. travel time: 3hrs | 180 kms)
En route, visit a Spice Garden in Matale, where you will learn about the cultivation and traditional uses of Sri Lanka's renowned spices, including cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg. Gain insight into Ayurvedic herbs and their importance in local cuisine and wellness practices followed by a complementary head massage.
Thereafter, continue to Wattegama, located on the outskirts of Kandy, and check in to your accommodation. Nestled amidst lush, forested hills, this peaceful retreat offers a tranquil setting to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
After breakfast, depart for the Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO-listed conservation area renowned for its stunning landscapes, cloud forests, waterfalls, and rich biodiversity. Enjoy a guided hike through scenic mountain trails, taking in panoramic views of the surrounding valleys while observing the unique flora and fauna of this remarkable ecosystem.
Following the hike, proceed to Kandy, Sri Lanka's last royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Embark on a city tour, visiting the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.
Continue to explore some of Kandy's famous attractions, including the bustling town center, scenic viewpoints, historic landmarks, and cultural highlights that showcase the city's rich heritage.
If time permits, enjoy a leisurely cycling ride around Kandy Lake, a picturesque body of water located in the heart of the city and surrounded by lush greenery and historic architecture.
After breakfast, depart for Colombo, Sri Lanka's vibrant commercial capital. Today's journey is a relaxing travel day with no cycling activities included. (approx. travel time: 4hrs | 170 kms)
Upon arrival in Colombo, embark on a city tour exploring the city's blend of colonial heritage, modern architecture, and cultural landmarks. Highlights may include the historic Fort area, Independence Square, Gangaramaya Temple, the scenic Galle Face Green, and the bustling streets of Pettah, offering a fascinating insight into the city's diverse character.
Following the city tour, enjoy some free time for shopping. Browse a selection of modern shopping malls, boutique stores, and local handicraft outlets, providing the perfect opportunity to purchase souvenirs, clothing, gems, tea, and other Sri Lankan specialties.
Thereafter, proceed to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
